Mystery moves on the Dart

Our first trip away this year in the van, for a long weekend of paddling on the River Dart with Friends from Whitewater Action Medway. This was Bo’s first over night trip away from home so it’s been a bit of a learning curve for us and her, luckily the club were staying in a bunkhouse and we were fortunate enough to be able to park the van in the car park and share the bunkhouse facilities.Dartmoor Sunrise

Friday and Saturday were very wet, due to this the river levels were really good so I took the opportunity to go squirt boating on the Dart Webburn seam.

Sunday we woke to a frost, when its cold like this I reach over and turn the night heater on to warm things up before I get out of my sleeping bag, once the temperature had climbed to more comfortable level got up and dressed to take Bo out for a quick walk. Once back in the van Bo quickly found an novel way to enjoy the lovely warm air coming out of the Cali’s night heater while I fixed breakfast.

Wet and Wild Weekend in Devon

The weekend before the biggest storm of the year to hit the UK we visited Woolacombe for a weekend of surfing, and also managed to visit meet up with friends from Whitewater Action Medway who were paddling on the river Barle.

Fridays Surf was 2-3ft with a strong cross shore wind that slowly built to a point that wasn’t nice to paddle in by the time some of the guys from WAM got on, but on saturday the wind had moved cross on shore and the surf built to a nice 5-6ft, and made for a great days surfing with Chris.

A Weekend in the Otters Pocket

Another weekend away in the van this time to a different location, Budleigh Salterton in Devon for a bit of squirt boating on the river Otter. The Otters pocket is a mystery move spot formed as the tide pours over a ledge creating a powerful seam allowing downtime of 15 seconds plus if if you get it right.

Isle of Wight

Another great trip away for a long weekend, this time to the Isle of Wight. Its been at lest 6 months since I paddled my surf boat and with 2 ft of surf predicted and tailing off to flat seas over the long weekend I decided it would be good to take my surf boat with us.
One of our first destinations was Compton Bay for a surf to take advantage of the surf before it dropped off, this is only the second time I’ve surfed off of the isle of wight and both times i have been pleasantly surprised at how good the surf was.

The following day we visited Sea View and spent the morning crabbing off of the rocks, I can’t remember ever going crabbing as a kid and thoroughly enjoyed it, using left over pizza made really good bait.
