Canoe England Volunteer Recognition Awards 2012

On Sunday 15th April 2012 I helped organise and run a large clean up of the river Medway in Kent, with over 120 canoes and kayaks clearing litter from the river and its bank it turned out to be one of the most participated events of Canoe England’s National ‘Go Canoeing’ week.

To my surprise I was nominated for my efforts at the Canoe England Volunteer & Recognition Awards 2012. The awards were presented at Eastwood Hall, Nottingham on the 27th October, unfortunately I was not able to make the presentation and even more of a surprise I won the Waterways & Environment Volunteer award.
The award was collected on my behalf by Chris Edge who presented this to me at the January meeting of the BCU South Eastern committee meeting.

I would like to thank everyone that helped me to organise and run the event but most of all I would like to thank everyone that took part. If you would like to see more photos of the event or take part in the next River Medway cleanup join the facebook page here.

Atera Strada DL3 fitted to VW T5 California

I’ve been looking for a new cycle carrier for our VW T5 California that would allow access to the rear boot area with out having to take the bikes off.
Due to the large tailgate our old carrier had to be remove to access the boot area this was a right pain, after some time spent on google I found the Atera Strada DL3 that had some very good reviews and suggestions that it would work.
A phone call to the very helpful people at Roofbox.co.uk who confirmed I would be able to open the tailgate without removing the carrier I ordered one.
I would have liked a video to confirm there was enough clearance but couldn’t find one, I will update with another video showing the bikes fitted.
